MS NOW’s Alex Witt Gives a Tearful Goodbye After 30 Years: ‘Hard To Get To This’

Longtime MS NOW anchor Alex Witt signed off tearfully on Sunday for the last time following a retrospective of her run at the channel which spanned nearly 30 years.

“Let’s go now to our last moments together, because there’s a great line from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,'” Witt said. “So with that in mind, I want to take a moment with all of you to look around at the stories, the people, and a job that has allowed me to report, in many cases, the rough draft of history for 27 years.”

The approximately 15 minute video retrospective showed Witt covering such historic events as 9/11, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, NBC reporter David Bloom’s death in Iraq, and the Pulse Nightclub shooting, among other events.

“Wow!” Witt reacted after the retrospective, before thanking her entire staff, including, “The entire archives team — deep archives! — for their work on this piece.”

“And a special thanks to my longtime executive producer, Nick Kovijanic, who — I knew it would be hard to get to this —” Witt said while choking up.

“You’re a champion, Nick,” Witt said through tears. “You fought for me, this show, our team. I’ve never stopped learning from you. You’ve inspired my approach to covering the news and the way I interpret the world around me. You’ve been my rudder through all of this. I promise to keep staring in that direction.”

“You guys have heard me talk about Nick so much,” she said before welcoming the crew onto the MS NOW set.

So look, it takes a village. My village is here. I want to thank you to all of the wonderful colleagues at MS NOW. My studio crew, my technical crew in the control booth, especially these people, my team for their excellence, for putting in long hours to make it happen every single weekend. And to you, the viewers, it has been such a privilege to earn your trust delivering the news. I’m grateful for your loyalty, keeping me right here in this anchor chair all these years doing this job that I love. Thank you.

Several crew members grew emotional as Witt spoke of her family.

“And lastly, I’m a mom, so to my son and daughter, thank you for embracing and understanding the many ways my weekend hours impacted you. I’m forever proud of you two, and love you till the end of time,” Witt said.

“That’s going to do it for me on this edition of Alex Witt Reports. Enjoy your holidays!” Witt said for the last time, as the staff clapped and chanted her name.
