Mike Johnson Promises More of ‘Exactly’ the Same if GOP Win Midterms
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) previewed his closing message to voters ahead of the midterms while on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Tuesday, to do “exactly what we have been doing.”
Johnson’s message raised eyebrows across social media given the current anxiety surrounding the cost of living and high gas prices in the country, which has led to record-low approval ratings for President Donald Trump.
“What we would do in the next two years is exactly what we have been doing already, and that is putting the conditions in place for a strong America again. We restored not just American energy dominance and peace through strength, but a vibrant economy,” Johnson claimed, adding:
The conditions are there for this to take off, and that’s why the stock market indexes are high. That’s why job numbers exceed expectations. The Atlanta Fed says 5.1 percent economic growth is expected in the third quarter. That doesn’t happen by happenstance. It’s because we did what we said we were going to do and put pro-growth, free-market principles into legislation and federal policy. We have to continue that. We’ve got so much more to do, and we can make things so much better. We just have to keep going.
Many Democrats were quick to pounce on Johnson’s remarks. Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA) shared a clip and added, “ANOTHER two years of gutting health care, rubberstamping Trump’s war of choice, and letting prices skyrocket?”
“Surely the American people will be inspired with this answer!” added Fox News host Jessica Tarlov.
