Media World Erupts Over Fox Abruptly Parting Ways With Maria Bartiromo: ‘Holy Crap’

Fox News Media’s surprise announcement on Thursday that longtime Fox Business and Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo was leaving the network sent immediate shock waves through the media world, with many speculating she would soon be joining the Trump administration.
“Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with FOX News Media,” wrote Fox in a press release, adding, “In making the announcement, FOX News Media said, ‘We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.’”
Reactions ranged from observers calling out the 58-year-old Bartiromo’s role in pushing pro-Trump 2020 presidential election conspiracies to speculation on her next move to fans wishing her well.
The Guardian’s media reporter Jeremy Barr reacted to the news, writing, “Holy crap,” and added, “Maria Bartiromo has apparently been off the air since the early part of August, but it appears that we as media reporters missed it.” He later added, “A reminder that Maria Bartiromo sat at Trump’s table during Inauguration and was also appointed to the board of the Kennedy Center (though so was Laura Ingraham).”
Notably, however, August absences for long vacations are not uncommon on cable news.
As speculation immediately simmered that Bartiromo may be headed to the White House to replace Karoline Leavitt as press secretary, former Mediaite editor in chief, now Vanity Fair’s Washington correspondent, Aidan McLaughlin reported, “Bartiromo is not leaving for a job in the Trump admin, I’m told.”
Conservative pundit Amanda Carpenter added, “That’s one major election conspiracist off the Fox roster for the midterms. (I suppose CBS or other MAGA outlets are on the table though. But not nearly the same platform for her.)”
