‘Makes No Sense Whatsoever!’ Former Deputy FBI Director Calls Kash Patel’s Bestiality Rule Change ‘Mind-Boggling’
Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe insisted Tuesday that changes current FBI Director Kash Patel wants to make to the agency’s bestiality rules make “no sense whatsoever!”
While speaking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, McCabe said, “It’s mind-boggling to me that the FBI engaged in this sort of change in its automatic disqualifiers for employment.”
He continued:
This is not, in my 21 years in the FBI, I don’t even remember hearing the word bestiality at work, but nevertheless, this is … even if, and I’m not saying I believe it’s, but let’s say for the sake of argument, that Kash Patel is correct that this was limited only to victims of bestiality, whatever that might be. That is not how the rule change was originally launched to the public, that qualification was never there. And, secondly, if that was a thing, if it came up in 1 in 1,000,000 cases, it’s not the sort of thing that you would have to change a policy for. Any disqualifier can be appealed.
The FBI, he continued, “does not discriminate against the victims of crime in any way in its hiring practices. So it’s hard to understand how this is even relevant. It’s even harder to understand how a Director of the FBI would have engaged in this sort of rule or process change, because it generates exactly what we’re doing now.”
In August, CBS News journalists Sarah N. Lynch and Daniel Klaidman reported the FBI planned to relax the organization’s rules pertaining to vetting the agency’s applicants. The new rules state in part that applicants are now eligible to apply for positions at the FBI if they’ve been part of past bestiality or animal cruelty and the conduct took place before they turned 18.
“Any polygraph changes reflect a clear difference between a disqualified applicant who has engaged in criminal behavior, versus an applicant who may be subject to further evaluation based on rare exigent circumstances,” an FBI spokesperson told CBS.
