‘Like … What?’ CNN’s Kasie Hunt Absolutely Floored by Taxpayer-Funded Ad That Says ‘God Made Trump’
CNN’s Kasie Hunt was visibly taken aback by a new taxpayer-funded ad for President Donald Trump that insists, in part, “God made Trump.”
The ad, which is narrated by a male voice that appears to be intended to invoke a preacher or religious leader, continues, “So God made Trump. God had to have somebody willing to go into the den of vipers, call out the fake news for their tongues as sharp as serpents; the poison of vipers is on their lips. And yet stop. So God made Trump.”
“Go to church on Sunday,” Hunt deadpanned after playing the ad.
“Preacher might tell you that God makes all of us in his image, so there’s that. Um, but like I, I’m sorry, like the government is paying to air these ads. [CNN’s Washington Bureau Chief and Political Director] David Chalian, like, what? We have crossed some sort of Rubicon here. Like, what?”
Trump’s ads also began airing on CNN and MS NOW — two networks he’s repeatedly attempted to ban from the White House – on Sept. 30. The first ad featured the president as he argued against “communism, socialism, and Marxism.” In another, he warns against the “deep state” and “globalists.”
The ads have been widely panned by critics, who point to the fact that they are paid for with taxpayer dollars and push a specific, Trump-centric message. The Washington Post’s Scott Nover also reported, “The Trump administration has spent at least $2.87 million running the three ads, according to a modeled estimate from AdImpact.”
Nover added, “The company said that because the ad is classified as a PSA rather than traditional political advertising, it could not release the administration’s exact spending; the company also could not isolate how much was spent specifically on CNN and MS NOW.”
Nover also noted the Trump administration “bought thousands of ad placements” on CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, and Fox News, 38 ads on MS NOW, and 10 on CNN.
