‘Let’s Be Real’: The View Co-Hosts Spar Over Whether Kamala Harris Should Run For President in 2028

The View’s co-hosts sparred on Friday over whether former Vice President Kamala Harris should run on the Democratic ticket for president in 2028.

“The Wall Street Journal reports Harris has taken steps that would enable her to run, and that her husband Doug [Emhoff] has privately said he doesn’t want her to,” Sunny Hostin said to spark the conversation.

Ana Navarro said she recently spoke with Harris, who is a longtime friend.

“Let me say this — number one, if Kamala Harris wants to run, I sure as hell am not telling her she can’t or she shouldn’t. She is the highest ranking woman ever elected in U.S. history,” Navarro said.

“She came damn close to winning in what was a very difficult campaign run in 107 days. I do not believe that Doug Emhoff is saying that he doesn’t want her to run because, these two met and got married when they were almost 50. They were both established successful professionals. Doug Emhoff respects and supports his wife; Kamala respects and supports Doug Emhoff. If Kamala Harris says, ‘I’m going to run,’ Doug Emhoff will do everything in his power to help her get elected.”

Trump won 49.8% of the popular vote to Harris’s 48.3% in 2024, or 312 electoral college votes to Harris’s 226.

“But I’ve also — you know, let’s be real — and I’ve told Kamala this. I hear a lot of women who are scarred from the fact that two very qualified women, Hillary and Kamala, lost against the most unqualified human being that has ever been in the Oval Office.

“Do you think a Black woman can be president in 2028?” Hostin asked substitute host Raven-Symoné.

“Not in America!” Symoné exclaimed. “In the days after Joe Biden dropped out in 2024, online platforms saw a racist content directed at Kamala go up 525% and misogynistic content went up 2,328%.”

“If the Democrats want to win I don’t think she is the right candidate,” said Sara Haines. “Because I think the Democrats have been screaming for new energy. They’ve been saying, ‘We need something new to combat this.’ This would be her third time on this ballot, from the first time when she didn’t — she was out really early when she ran, and then the time with Biden, this would be the third time.”

“People are clamoring for fresh energy, and there is a lot of candidates, Pete Buttigieg, Mark Kelly, [Josh] Shapiro, Wes Moore. They’re moderate Democrats and I think they could sweep,” Haines said.

“And they’re men!” Symoné quipped.

“They are men,” Haines acknowledged. “But if there was someone of that caliber — Elissa Slotkin. She’s someone I’ll have  my eye on down the road when she comes around, but that’s a female I would vote for.”
