President Donald Trump has abandoned plans to livestream the execution of Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan, reversing the controversial idea put forward by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ahead of the Pentagon’s planned December firing-squad execution.
In a lengthy Truth Social post Thursday, the president said Hasan would still be executed by firing squad as scheduled, but any sort of live public broadcast would not happen.
“I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device,” Trump wrote.
The president continued: “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.”
Trump added that immediate family members of Hasan’s victims would still be permitted to witness the execution in person if they wished.

The move comes a week after the Pentagon said Hasan’s execution would be livestreamed, a plan first shared by Hegseth as a public demonstration of the consequences for terrorism.
The proposal quickly drew criticism from across the political spectrum but also from those Trump’s inner circle. House Speaker Mike Johnson warned that broadcasting the killing could become a “recruiting tool for future terrorists,” while Vice President JD Vance said he would not watch it.
Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in the mass shooting.
