Jon Stewart Agrees to Contract Extension with Skydance — Will Continue Daily Show Hosting Duties Through the Rest of Trump’s Term

Jon Stewart has agreed to a contract extension with Skydance, allowing him to remain on The Daily Show until the end of President Donald Trump’s second term.

News of the extension was reported Monday by CNN’s Brian Stelter. The report added:

The new deal means one of television’s most prominent critics of President Donald Trump is staying in place for the rest of Trump’s term.

Stewart will continue hosting on Monday nights, an arrangement in place since January 2024, and serving as executive producer of the series. The satirical newscast’s correspondents “will continue to share hosting duties Tuesday – Thursday,” Skydance said.

The agreement is Stewart’s longest extension since returning to the program, following two successive one-year renewals.

The news of Stewart’s extension was notable due to the fact that it came hours after CNN’s Christiane Amanpour announced her departure from the network after more than 40 years. With the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery being finalized to former Skydance, critics of the move have voiced concerns over CBS and CNN both being led by David Ellison, a close ally of President Donald Trump. Amanpour herself recently cited CBS’s “ideological realignment” while discussing concerns about the future of CNN.
