Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson’s chronicle of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline as he sought a second White House term has soared to the top of multiple bestseller lists, despite assertions it would crater at bookshops.

Amazon, The New York Times, and the U.K.’s Sunday Times all have Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again as their No. 1 seller.

The book’s popularity has come as a surprise to naysayers who trashed it.

John Nolte of Breitbart wrote that Tapper and Thompson have been “pimping a fake book,” and pointed out that its sales are a bust next to Bob Woodward’s Fear: Trump in the White House, published in 2018.

The Woodward comparison was echoed by PJ Media’s Rick Moran, who wrote that Original Sin “lays an egg” in bookstores while tarnishing ratings on Tapper’s CNN show.

But perhaps the most scathing review of the book came from Naomi Biden, the former president’s granddaughter , who slammed it as “political fairy smut for the permanent, professional chattering class.”

To promote Original Sin, Tapper and Thompson hit the TV and podcast circuits hard in the days leading up to the book’s release, appearing on shows hosted by Megyn Kelly, Piers Morgan, and Bill Maher, to name a few.
