California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has broken his silence over his ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle being fired from her ambassadorship to Greece for allegedly selling access to the Trump administration.

CBS News’s Jared Ochacher caught up with Newsom as he campaigned for Democratic candidates in New Hampshire ahead of the midterms.

“Recently, your ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle was involved in a scandal and pushed out of her ambassadorship. Could you please share what your reaction was to that news?” Ochacher asked on Saturday.

“I don’t know enough about it. I haven’t talked to her in a while,” Newsom said. “I just wish her the best, and I don’t have much, honestly, much more to say on it. It’s unfortunate.”

Newsom was married to Guilfoyle from December 2001 through his tenure as San Francisco’s mayor, until their divorce was finalized in February 2006.

During her own brief tenure as press secretary, Katie Zacharia announced Tuesday that the administration had asked asked Guilfoyle to step down, and Guilfoyle resigned shortly thereafter.

Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported that it had reviewed text messages between Guilfoyle and Trump donor Eric Deters, in which she asked him to send $100,000 to pay her American Express bill.

After news broke of Guilfoyle’s alleged behavior, The Journal reported that she tried to save her job by claiming that texts were AI-generated.

The Journal filed a subsequent report alleging Guilfoyle bragged about her relationship with prominent Greek businessmen after they paid for her travel and other expenses.

“You know, I can deliver the world to you. Which you deserve,” she said in an exchange with a businessman, according to a recording reviewed by the Journal. “I’m going to make you a lot of f—ing money.”

In addition, the report said Guilfoyle acknowledged on the recording that she flew to the January 2026 World Economic Forum on a private jet with Alexandros Exarchou, chief executive of the Greek construction company Aktor Group, then allegedly encouraged “governments from Bulgaria to Albania” to do billions of dollars of business with his firm.

Deters has since said he filed a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle.
