‘He Wants Our Land’: Talarico Floats Theory On Why Elon Musk is Funding GOP’s Texas Senate Race

Texas Senate candidate James Talarico has a theory on why Elon Musk is investing money in his opponent’s campaign: “He wants our land.”

Talarico spoke to MS NOW’s Katy Tur Monday night about a litany of issues and topics relating to his campaign.

When the topic of Musk, who has poured nearly $300 million into Republican races around the country ahead of the midterms, was raised, Talarico kept things short and pointed.

Well, Elon wants our land. He’s already trying to buy one of our beautiful state parks down in south Texas. He wants our water for these ai data centers. He wants our taxpayer funds. Like when he ran that crazy doge process, and he wants his very own personal United States senator. And that’s what he thinks he can get with Ken Paxton.

The interview came the same day Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) denied claims made by Texas Monthly that Musk sought to purchase Boca Chica State Park to expand his sprawling SpaceX compound. Musk owns several properties in the Austin area.

Abbot acknowledged he does not know the specific ins and outs of any conversations Musk may have had with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and offered praise for the commission.

“I’ve been at multiple locations across the state where we are adding new parks to the entire parks and wildlife system,” he said. “No state in America has been adding more parkland than what I’ve done and what Texas has done; I want to continue to preserve our parkland in the state of Texas.”

Texas Monthly reported, “The deliberations were far along enough that the commission planned to take up the sale of “1,300 acres” in Cameron County during a closed-door executive session at a meeting on November 5, two days after the election, according to a draft agenda of the commission meeting.”

Reporter Forrest Wilder also noted, “Two sources familiar with internal discussions of the potential sale said Elon Musk’s SpaceX is the prospective buyer and confirmed that the 1,300-acre property in question is the beachfront state park, which is adjacent to Musk’s burgeoning Starbase facility, near Brownsville.”

Musk has spent at least $158 million to aid Paxton.
