‘Great Member of Congress!’ Speaker Johnson Says He’s Still Backing Congressman Accused of Domestic Violence

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Monday that he still supports Rep. Max Miller, (R-OH) despite the severe domestic abuse allegations against the Ohio congressman.

CNN’s Manu Raju caught up with Johnson in the halls of Congress, where he asked, “Would you support Max Miller’s reelection?”

“I have supported Max Miller’s reelection,” Johnson answered.

“You still do?” Raju followed up.

“Yes, and he has been a great member of Congress. He has some issues in his personal life he’s working through. The House Ethics Committee is looking into that, and any implications it may have. And as usual, you know, I’ve said it a thousand times, we have to let due process play out,” Johnson said, as he walked out of frame.

Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), accused Miller of physically abusing both her and the couple’s young daughter — accusations that Miller has vehemently denied.

Sen. Moreno said that Miller should step down and “seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.”

Other Republicans have called for Miller to drop his reelection bid, including Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) and Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) who called Miller a “degenerate sociopath.”

Miller has used social media and television interviews to defend himself, but one livestream backfired when Miller posted an online link containing files that reportedly included a nude photograph of the toddler.

Moreno immediately filed a lawsuit on behalf of the child accusing Miller and his attorney of having “recklessly published and distributed on the internet an unredacted nude photograph” of the girl.

In a statement to Mediaite, Miller’s attorney Aaron Minc, apologized and said the release of the photo was “completely my fault.”

Despite pressure to drop his re-election bid, Miller indicated he was loaning his campaign $1 million so he could carry on.

“I am invested in this election in every way and I will invest the resources into my campaign to win,” Miller said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal about his upcoming battle against Brook Park city councilman Brian Poindexter.

The U.S. House Ethics Committee opened its investigation into Miller at the beginning of August.
