Republican nominee for governor of Colorado Victor Marx addressed past comments he made about slamming his wife into a door, telling a Zoom call with supporters this week that “I’d do it again” — chalking the whole thing up to friendly fighting for sport.

Local Colorado 9News anchor Kyle Clark shared the clip on Tuesday night and wrote, “GOP Gov nominee Victor Marx told backers on a Zoom call last night that he doesn’t regret slamming his wife into a door to teach her a lesson about self-defense. ‘I’d do it again,’ Marx said. Marx says she fake cried and physicality is just the nature of their relationship.”

The controversy around Marx’s original comments stems from a late September Daily Beast report revealing Marx told a podcast host in 2021 how he was disappointed that his wife stopped combat training. After recalling that she told him she didn’t need to train because she had him to protect her, Marx added:

And I remember grabbing her and slamming her into our front door. I mean, pretty… it was a decent push. It’d be a bouncer push, right? She hit that, bent over, and started crying, facing the opposite way.

“This is the dumbest thing. And same thing with me grabbing my wife, pushing her against the door,” Marx told supporters in the clip Clark shared on the incident, adding:

Show the before and after. They don’t want the full truth: that my wife was fake crying, suckered me in. And I was like, “Oh my gosh, are you okay?” And she does a spin back kick in my luggage. I was like, “Okay, you actually can’t protect yourself.”

Marx’s wife then pops into the shot and grabs him, saying, “I did a weird choke.”

“You’re making me flinch, huh? You guys, I mean, people have called us the real Mr. and Mrs. Smith: black belts, training. I’m sitting there. How many of, you know, how many wives, you know, actually grab a backpack, put a tomahawk, magic vision, and put a grenade in their coat pocket? We’re not normal,” he insisted.

“So I’d do it again. I’d do everything again, except get that close to her and let her kick me, because she’s sneaky. So, it’s just nuts,” he concluded.

Marx has drawn national attention for the wild claims he has made about his past, which include that he killed an undisclosed number of people and conducts exorcisms. Marx runs a ministry in the state that says it rescues endangered children and Christians from overseas.

Marx is not seen as a competitive candidate in the race for Colorado governor, so much so that the RealClearPolitics averages of polling are not even tracking the race.
