Fox News Host Will Cain Explains Outrage Behind Ad Trump Vehemently Defended Just Minutes Prior

Just moments after President Donald Trump told reporters that Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s mother said “very bad things” about her, Fox News host Will Cain offered an explanation that dispelled that explanation.

“All I said is the mother said very bad things about Acton, who I guess is running for governor, and all I can say is … I know one thing, if my mother said something about me, it would a major news story,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “I don’t know what it is, but the mother said very bad things about the one running for governor, and I think you have to take that seriously.”

Trump was referencing a campaign ad released by Acton’s opposition, Vivek Ramaswamy. In the ad, Acton’s mother accuses her of lying. When Acton was 12 her stepfather was charged with raping her. Acton’s mother left town with her stepfather, helping him evade punishment. Acton and her brother lived with their father from that point on.

“President Trump on his way to Iowa, stopping to talk to reporters. He spoke at length, answering many questions about Ohio gubernatorial candidate, Ramaswamy, featuring opponent Acton’s mother, where she urged voters not to vote for her daughter and accuses her of being a liar,” Cain said.

He continued:

The ad has sparked outrage and controversy because Amy Acton alleges that when she was younger she was sexually abused by her stepfather and the mother remained with the stepfather. They have an estrangement in their relationship, and President Trump addresses the questions whether or not that invalidates the opinion of Amy Acton’s mother. Many are asking, ‘Is there nothing below the belt? Is that beyond the realms of respectable politics?’

Trump has repeatedly supported the ad despite wide condemnation from other members of the Republican Party. “Vivek Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Amy Acton, who is running for Governor of Ohio, is a liar, and much worse. The Press, in a concerted and well coordinated attack, is trying to get Vivek Ramaswamy to ‘take down the Ad,'” he wrote on Truth Social Thursday.
