Fox News Apologizes After Airing Clip of 9/11 Crash While Reporting on In-Flight Brawl, Hijack Alert

Fox News was forced to issue an on-air apology after airing footage from a Sept. 11, 2001 plane crash during a report on the in-flight altercation between two pilots on a FlyDubai flight on Wednesday.

The bizarre moment played out on Fox & Friends as the curvy couch hosts reported on the emergency situation out of the United Arab Emirates, where a fight between two pilots reportedly erupted inside the cockpit aboard the FlyDubai flight to Israel, sparking hijack fears.

As national correspondent Jeff Paul gave a live report on the situation on Fox, a video from Shanksville, Pennsylvania, briefly played alongside him.

“SHANKSVILLE, PA Sept. 11, 2001.” text on the clip read.

The field was the scene of the United Flight 93 crash, where hijackers downed the plane during a heroic passenger revolt as the worst terror attack on American soil played out.

A short time later, F&F co-host Brian Kilmeade issued the apology on air.

“A half hour ago when we came on the air, we were just getting the latest on this story, we aired some footage unrelated. We apologize for any confusion. We’re still also trying to make sense of what just took place. So you got this flight in the air leaving the UAE, heading to Israel, that was forced to go down in Saudi Arabia.”

The events of the FlyDubai incident are still unfolding, but The Jerusalem Post has reported that during the fight to take down the attacker the aircraft plummeted almost 13,000 meters, further adding that the co-pilot “attempted to hijack the aircraft” after allegedly stabbing the pilot.
