Fox Business Correspondent Slams Trump for New Mexico Renaming Tease: ‘Won’t Do It in November’

Fox Business correspondent Charles Gasparino urged President Donald Trump and Republicans to get on the ball when it comes to their messaging ahead of the midterms — warning that Trump’s renaming stunts won’t cut it with voters.
With just 57 days to go until November’s midterm elections, Gasparino took to X on Monday to push Trump and his team to get serious.
The warning came after Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday night about another proposed geographical name change — this time targeting an American state, and turning New Mexico into “New America.”
“Someone tell the president renaming lakes and states won’t do it in November. Unfortunately, attacking @hasanthehun every minute of every day probably won’t either,” Gasparino wrote, referencing lightning rod Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who once soullessly claimed America “deserved” 9/11.
“I know it’s a hard sell (the tariffs made it harder because the admin took its eye off prices still being elevated when it took over; endorsing weird candidates like [Ken] Paxton is an issue as well; Iran is a net negative for now) but I don’t hear Team Trump emphasize enough the decent top line econ numbers and how that could get dramatically worse under the Dems.
“Also with Iran neutered the world will be a safer place–oil price WILL be coming down. Make the arguments before it’s too late,” he added.
Trump inspired a political uproar when he officially ordered Lake Ontario to be renamed Lake America amid a trade war with Canada and the threat of 50% tariffs on Canadian goods.
While MAGA fans considered the Lake America name change an epic troll, others were angry. A recent poll showed most Americans were not fans of the change.
The president has made sure to rub it in, posting bonkers AI videos on Truth Social, including machine gun-wielding Canada geese and another clip showing him kicking over a sign reading “Lake Ontario” and placing a “Lake America” sign there instead.
