Four House Democrats put forward their own resolution on Monday to condemn the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) in response to a GOP effort to force Democrats to vote on a similar resolution put forward by Rep. Jeff Crank (R-CO) last week.

Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Hillary Scholten (D-MI), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), and Tom Suozzi (D-NY) put forward an amendment to Crank’s resolution that explicitly condemns both socialism and the DSA. Crank told Fox News digital last week that he wanted to force Democrats to go on the record with his resolution.

“I keep hearing people like Hakeem Jeffries and others in the Congress saying that they oppose the DSA. Let’s see if they’re willing to vote for a resolution that would oppose them,” Crank said. Crank’s resolution, however, included a version of the SAVE Act, President Donald Trump’s controversial voter-ID bill. The amendment offered by the four Democrats removes that part of the resolution, allowing for a more straight-up and down vote on the text condemning the DSA.

“Strike the preamble and insert the following,” began the amendment put out by Gottheimer’s office.

“Whereas socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has, time and time again, collapsed into communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and repressive dictatorships;” began the text, which then listed many historic horrors attributed to socialism.

Gottheimer, a conservative Democrat in a swing district, has become one of the top critics of the DSA, often appearing on Fox News and other outlets to condemn the group and its leaders like New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D).  Rep. Scholten grabbed headlines in recent weeks over her fierce criticism of progressive Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, whom she has accused of vehement sexism and slammed for campaigning with Hasan Piker.

Below is the rest of the text of the resolution:

Whereas the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, built on Marxist-Leninist doctrine, subjected its people to forced collectivization, the man-made Holodomor famine that starved millions of Ukrainians, mass deportations, and a sprawling network of gulag labor camps;

Whereas the People’s Republic of China under Mao Zedong carried out the Great Leap Forward, whose forced collectivization produced the deadliest famine in recorded human history, followed by the Cultural Revolution, which claimed millions more lives;

Whereas the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, in pursuit of a socialist utopia, murdered roughly one-quarter of the nation’s population;

Whereas the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) descends from the Socialist Party of America, which ran its own candidates on an independent socialist ballot line for decades;

Whereas the (DSA) calls for noncitizens and incarcerated criminals to vote in American elections;

Whereas the DSA calls for abolishing the U.S. Senate;

Whereas on February 19, 2026, the DSA stated “[t]he United States of America has never been a democracy”;

Whereas the DSA’s ideology and socialism, in any form, are incompatible with American values and the United States Constitution;

Whereas the DSA openly seeks to abolish capitalism and to seize control of private American industry;

Whereas the DSA calls for the abolition of prisons and the defunding of police departments across the United States, endangering the safety of American communities; Whereas the DSA advocates defunding the United States Armed Forces, closing bases, and withdrawing from alliances, weakening the national defense of the United States and emboldening America’s adversaries abroad; and

Whereas the DSA calls for lifting and removing sanctions on hostile foreign governments-including Iran, Cuba, and North Korea-who seek to harm Americans and target American armed forces, jeopardizing the national security of the United States: Now, therefore, be it

Strike all after the resolving clause and insert the following: “That the House of Representatives condemns and denounces socialism in all its forms, including the Democratic Socialists of America, and opposes the implementation of socialist policies in the United States.”
