Michigan candidate for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed (D) hit back on social media at Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) for suggesting he was a fan of 9/11 terrorist Osama bin Laden.

Drop Site News’s Julian Andreone posted video of Kennedy with El-Sayed’s Republican opponent Mike Rogers, saying, “Look, AIPAC wouldn’t be, they wouldn’t come here, if Dr. El-Sayed didn’t sleep in a bin Laden jersey.”

“I’m just telling you,” Kennedy said as Rogers laughed.

AIPAC is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a powerful pro-Israel lobbying group.

Andreone clarified, “Abdul El-Sayed has never said anything in support of Osama Bin Laden. He’s just Muslim.”

In response to Kennedy’s barb, El-Sayed wrote, “That’s rich coming from someone who wears his bed sheets out at night,” inferring that Kennedy was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, known for wearing white robes that resemble bed sheets.

El-Sayed has been the target of anti-muslim backlash from conservatives ever since he won Michigan’s Democratic primary in August.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) called El-Sayed a “TERRORIST” and “RADICAL ISLAMIST” on social media. President Donald Trump posted photos of First Lady Melania Trump alongside El-Sayed’s wife in a hijab, with the words, “Two VERY DIFFERENT America’s.” And MAGA whisperer Laura Loomer urged Americans to call El-Sayed a “jihadist.”

During their Senate debate this week, Rogers made multiple references to the Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah, and Hamas. Rogers also accused El-Sayed’s mother of working for an organization with ties to Al Qaeda.

El-Sayed responded, “You’re gonna go after my mom?”

“In the 2000s, El-Sayed’s mother, Fatten Elkomy, was a nurse practitioner for the Islamic American Relief Agency. Leaders of the organization were charged by the U.S. Department of Justice during the Bush administration with violating sanctions after sending money to Iraq,” reported WGVU Public Media. “Rogers offered no evidence suggesting Elkomy knew anything about those crimes, and she was never charged or named as a co-conspirator.”

After the debate, Trump called El-Sayed a “jihadist lunatic,” and purposely got his first name wrong, calling him Mohammed instead of Abdul.

During a recent interview with MS NOW, El-Sayed responded to the Republicans’ taunts, saying, “They’re going to use Islamophobia because their ideas are tired.”
