In a new teaser for Sunday’s 60 Minutes, Ross Douthat asked Patrick Clancy if he felt like he “failed” as a father after his ex-wife admitted to killing their three young children due to postpartum psychosis.

Lindsay Clancy’s murder case ended in a mistrial after a lone holdout juror refused to absolve her of criminal liability for killing the children. Although a new trial is expected, the prosecution has not said if they will refile charges against Lindsay Clancy.

Patrick Clancy came under intense scrutiny during the trial, with some social media users questioning his character and whether he was actually involved in the killings.

Douthat conducted a sit-down interview with Clancy and his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, for Sunday’s exclusive.

“Are you angry at yourself? Do you feel like you failed in some way in this period, or do you think you did the best you could?” Douthat asked.

“I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time, and I live with the outcome,” Clancy said. “I live with it every day, but I think I did the best I could.”

In a brief clip released earlier in the week, Clancy said he still turns to his children for strength, even though they’re not physically around.

“I talk to them,” Clancy said.

“What do you say?” Douthat asked.

“Help me. All the time,” Clancy responded.

Clancy found his children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan — dead in the family basement in January 2023. Lindsay Clancy was found sprawled outside her home after attempting suicide by jumping through a window. The fall ultimately paralyzed her and left her wheelchair-bound for the trial.

Court records showed that Lindsay Clancy, a labor and delivery nurse, sought mental health help from multiple online providers and was prescribed a laundry list of medications for her complaints.

Since the mistrial, Lindsay Clancy has been returned to the mental hospital where she has spent three years since the strangulations.
