Corey Lewandowski Responds to Wall Street Journal Report Alleging He Controlled Billions in DHS Contracts

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski slammed The Wall Street Journal Tuesday as “another example of the kind of anonymous-source, politically driven reporting that Americans have seen time and again.”

The Journal published a report Monday that indicated Lewandowski essentially controlled billions of dollars in Department of Homeland Security contracts.

“This latest Wall Street Journal story, a once great publication, is today just another example of the kind of anonymous-source, politically driven reporting that Americans have seen time and again. We’ve lived through the Russia collusion hoax the fake Birthday card and countless other sensational allegations that ultimately failed to withstand scrutiny,” Lewandowski wrote.

He added, “I’m tremendously proud of my work as a volunteer in advancing this administration’s agenda and remain confident that the facts and not anonymous accusations will ultimately speak for themselves.”

Reps for Lewandowski denied wrongdoing to The Journal:

A wide-ranging probe by the department’s internal watchdog is scrutinizing any potential improprieties in the contracting process, including any evidence of personal enrichment by top officials. It has since found evidence that Lewandowski may have been involved in improperly awarding government contracts, the Journal reported in July.

A representative for Lewandowski denied Lewandowski had “sought contracts with foreign governments,” said he played no role in contract review or approval at the department and said he hadn’t been contacted about any investigation into contracting at DHS. The representative said Lewandowski “adamantly denies ever demanding any payment or compensation from any potential, former, or current government contractor or seeking or soliciting or entering contracts with foreign governments while volunteering his time with DHS,” and that “Lewandowski denies any wrongdoing.” The representative didn’t respond to other detailed questions from The Wall Street Journal.

Lewandowski also allegedly spoke to officials from at least two Middle Eastern countries to find work “on the side” and operated as a kind of “shadow secretary” to Kristi Noem, according to the report. He also apparently was responsible for the decision to cut a $2.7 billion blanket agreement for Palantir to $1 billion, the outlet claimed.
