‘Charmless Oaf!’ CNN’s Paul Begala Goes Ballistic on JD Vance for Hurling ‘Dopey Slurs’ Against Dems

Democratic strategist Paul Begala went ballistic on Vice President JD Vance on Friday for his cross-country campaign blitz, during which he hurled insults at Senate candidates James Talarico (D-TX) and Abdul El-Sayed (D-MI).

CNN’s John Berman played video of Vance in Michigan calling El-Sayed a “little weasel who should shut his mouth and show a little gratitude to the country that gave him everything.”

The video then cut to El-Sayed addressing the insult.

“It was funny. He called me a, JD Vance called me a little weasel today,” El-Sayed said. “I’m like, ‘No, no, no, what you’re talking about is a f*cking wolverine,'” referring to the mascot of his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

“Uh, the word that was bleeped out there begins with ‘F’ and ends with ‘G,’ Berman quipped before asking Begala, “Paul, this positioning of Vance vs. El-Sayed — who is that better for?”

“Well, if it begins with ‘F’ and ends with ‘G,’ he’s a fighting wolverine, right?” Begala joked. “Because that’s what wolverines do. He’s a Michigander.”

“Look, JD Vance, I’m just going to — JD must stand for ‘just dumb,’ Begala said, adding:

Because I know he went to Yale. It was just some college, apparently, in Connecticut. It’s very nice. But come on, that must have been like some hillbilly DEI thing. He’s a dum-dum. He comes to my state of Texas and slurs James Talarico, slurs gay Americans, and gay Texans, of which there’s a whole lot of them. Now, he’s going and calling El-Sayed — it’s just so dumb. Like, are they trying to lose? There’s a reason that Donald Trump is 30 points underwater everywhere you look, and JD is only a small part of that, but it’s just astonishing to me.

But Begala did offer some words of caution around El-Sayed, saying, “Now, I will say, I would rather Abdul be campaigning with moderates than leftists. We saw my buddy Talarico Wednesday night captured the center. Only 25% of Michiganders are liberal, and I believe Abdul’s got them nailed down. So, I don’t understand what AOC or Bernie [Sanders] brings him.”

“He needs — he’s bringing in President Obama, which will help a lot. He ought to be campaigning in that Upper Peninsula with Bart Stupak, a Democrat who won that district nine times. And we’ve only won the Upper Peninsula once in a presidential election in this century. So, I have my concerns with the way Abdul is running his campaign,” Begala said, before declaring, “But the kind of just dopey slurs coming from this dim-witted vice president, this charmless oaf, you can have him.”
