Linda Yaccarino stepped down as CEO of X on Wednesday, one day after controversy erupted over her boss Elon Musk’s AI bot Grok spewing praise for Adolf Hitler.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” Yaccarino said in an X post announcing her departure. “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino was hired by Musk and installed as X’s first permanent CEO after he bought the social media platform, then known as Twitter, for $44 billion in 2022.

Prior to that, she worked at NBC Universal for 15 years.

On Tuesday, Grok enraged the social media platform with posts that praised Hitler and ranted about “Jewish surnames” after the AI chatbot was updated over the weekend.

The posts prompted the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to condemn Grok’s “irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic” rhetoric.
