Punchbowl News’s Laura Weiss reported on Thursday that President Donald Trump’s Justice Department is actively working toward a criminal indictment for former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson.
“News: DOJ is seeking a federal criminal indictment of former WH aide Cassidy Hutchinson on charges of lying to Congress in her Jan. 6 testimony,” wrote Weiss on social media, adding:
DOJ’s Civil Rights Division brought evidence to a federal grand jury on Tuesday and is expected to present more evidence and additional witnesses later this month, per sources familiar with the plans. Hutchinson has not been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury, per the sources.
The Atlantic’s Sarah Fitzpatrick reported last Friday that both Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel’s jobs are at risk if they do not provide Trump with indictments of those he has long viewed as his political enemies — including Hutchinson.
“The president wants indictments. He wants people in handcuffs. He wants the headlines,” one former official told Fitzpatrick, adding that Trump wants results “no matter how thin” the fact.
“They’ve spent so much money on this. They’re going to have to come up with something,” a source told Fitzpatrick about the manpower and money spent on investigations at both the DOJ and the FBI.
Trump has repeatedly called for Hutchinson to be prosecuted, including in a March 2024 Truth Social screed in which he wrote, “Our great Secret Service has totally CRUSHED Cassidy Hutchinson’s (who I barely knew) made up (FAKE!) stories about me roughing up Secret Service Agents from the back seat of the Beast (Limo).”
“Has she now changed her testimony? Will she be prosecuted for what she did and said?” added the then former president. “What about the Unselect J6 Committee. They destroyed almost everything, including real evidence and findings. What’s going to happen with them – Serious crimes have been committed?”
Hutchinson, a former aide to chief of staff Mark Meadows, testified before the House January 6th Committee and helped to explain Trump’s actions that day, including why he was so slow to respond to the Capitol being sacked by pro-MAGA rioters.
This is a breaking story and has been updated.
