Critics were shocked by the numerous allegations in The Wall Street Journal’s bombshell report on Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) behind-the-scenes behavior, with one calling the Pennsylvania Congressman’s actions “beyond parody.”
Fetterman, 57, allegedly once quipped that reps for a children’s hospital concerned about vaccines just wanted “free trips to D.C.” At another point, he canceled a visit with paralyzed veterans in favor of an appearance on Fox News, according to the report.
Even members of Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation, including Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) and Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-PA) slammed Fetterman after the WSJ report.
“John Fetterman is a disgrace. Our state deserves better than a lazy trust fund baby who is too lazy to do the job,” Boyle wrote on X.
Gun control activist Shannon Watts described her own “bonkers” encounter with the senator, who suffered a stroke in May 2022 and is known for his intense support of Israel and going about his job in a hoodie.
“We were seated in his office and my friend started talking about her issue but Fetterman ignored her and began staring at me intently. He then launched into a tirade about a tweet I’d posted about his Republican colleague,” she wrote on X.
“It was a factual and not unkind or unfair tweet about her wrong position on an issue, and it had gone viral. Fetterman was angry because this colleague had visited him in the hospital and I guess he thought I should know that and abstain from tweeting about his allies? I found it odd that he was clocking my tweets,” she continued.
Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan, a frequent Fetterman critic, didn’t mince words.
“Difficult to describe how odious @JohnFetterman is, how beyond parody he is, and how wrong so many of us got it when we backed him for the Senate in 2022 and then defended him against the right after his stroke,” he wrote on X.
CNN senior political reporter Andrew Kaczynski called the report “wild.”
