‘Beyond Disturbing’: Ex-FBI Agent Buries Kash Patel for Lifting Ban on Hiring Applicants Who’ve Had Encounters With Prostitutes
FBI Director Kash Patel’s decision to relax rules that prohibited agents from engaging in prostitution is “beyond disturbing,” said former FBI agent Michael Feinberg on Monday.
CBS News journalists Sarah N. Lynch and Daniel Klaidman reported on Aug. 28 that the agency will still consider applications from people who paid for sex as long as they did so three or fewer times and at least 10 years ago. The new rules also allow applicants to remain eligible to apply as agents even if they engaged in bestiality, provided they did so before turning 18.
“I think from the perspective of the FBI as a narrow institution tasked with law enforcement duties, I’m particularly concerned about the waiving of the bar on having frequented prostitutes,” Feinberg said.
He continued:
Many prostitutes, tragically, are the victims of sex trafficking or in some cases, even worse, child sex trafficking. And that’s something the FBI investigates. It’s something the FBI prosecutes. It is the sort of crime that is a cancer on the society in which it takes place. And to now say that somebody we would give a badge, a gun, and the authority of the United States government could have conceivably taken advantage of one of those victims is beyond disturbing.
An FBI agent told CBS that the new rules may in part make it easier for applicants who experienced sexual abuse involving animals as children to apply to the agency. “Any polygraph changes reflect a clear difference between a disqualified applicant who has engaged in criminal behavior, versus an applicant who may be subject to further evaluation based on rare exigent circumstances.”
The FBI previously described “engagement in prostitution or bestiality” as among the agency’s “automatic disqualifiers.”
In April, former FBI analyst Philip Fields noted over 1,000 agents had left the FBI in 2025.
