Authorities Reveal Grim New Info About Disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s Mom: ‘She Did Not Leave on Her Own’
Arizona authorities investigating the mysterious disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, released some concerning new information on Monday, saying the 84-year-old “did not leave on her own.”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Nancy Guthrie as he addressed members of the media before noon, saying her home “is a crime scene.”
“What I really need is the community’s help with this,” Nanos said. “So I want to make sure — before I take any questions, it is a crime scene. We know that. She needs her daily medication. And anybody that sees anything that even looks, ‘Hey, maybe that’s her,’ just take a quick picture. Take a video, send it to us.”
Nanos added that despite her age, Nancy Guthrie’s mind remains “sharp as a tack” and she did not suffer from dementia or a related condition, but she is “limited in her mobility.”
“We know she didn’t just walk out of there. That we know. There are other things at the scene that indicate there was a … she did not leave on her own. We know that,” he said.
Nanos declined to answer to reporters’ questions about a break-in or other physical evidence at the scene. He said he did not know of any threats to Savannah Guthrie, who traveled to Arizona after learning of her mother’s disappearance.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said in a statement read on the Today show Monday. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy.”
The FBI is also involved in the case, and working with Pima County authorities.
