Andrew Tate Indicted on Trafficking Charges in Romania – as He Fights UK Extradition From Miami Jail

Andrew Tate was formally indicted in Romania on charges including trafficking minors and money laundering on Friday, as he remains behind bars in Miami, Florida, fighting extradition to the U.K. over separate rape allegations.

Romanian prosecutors announced the new indictment following a years-long investigation into the online influencer and his brother, Tristan Tate.

Andrew Tate was also indicted on charges of sex with a minor and witness tampering, while his brother was charged as an accessory to the alleged crimes. Both brothers deny any wrongdoing.

The dual U.S.-British citizens have been held in federal custody since their arrest in Miami in late July, after British authorities sought their extradition to face charges including rape, assault, and sex trafficking.

Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, has not yet said whether it will also seek their extradition from the United States.

The latest charges mark another development in the sprawling legal battles surrounding the brothers. Andrew Tate was previously charged in Romania in 2023 with rape, human trafficking and forming an organized criminal group to sexually exploit women. That case failed to advance to trial after a court identified problems with the prosecution.

The new indictment will now undergo a preliminary court review in Romania before any trial can begin. The brothers can ultimately be tried there in absentia.

Meanwhile, the pair are seeking release from custody in Florida while challenging the U.K. extradition request.
