Andrew Cuomo will reportedly throw in the towel on his bid to become New York City mayor — spurning an independent bid after his Democratic primary loss to Zohran Mamdani.

According to the New York Post, Cuomo will opt not to run in the general election on the “Fight & Deliver” party line — as he does not see a path to victory.

“The understanding is he’s not running, every indication is that he doesn’t want to do it and the money wouldn’t be there even if he did want to do it,” said a source the Post identified as an insider close to the Cuomo camp who is a leader from a prominent union.

Earlier Wednesday, the candidate himself said he was still on the fence.

“I’m looking at the numbers from last night. I want to get an idea of what the general election looks like and what landscape looks like, and what the issues are, and then make the decision,” Cuomo told the Post. “It’s one step at a time, and we haven’t even gotten all the numbers from last night.”

Cuomo’s defeat has sent shockwaves through New York and national political circles. Mamdani, a Democratic-Socialist, was a little-known three term state legislator who overcame Cuomo’s massive name recognition and reported $25 million campaign war chest to pull the stunning upset.

Current Mayor Eric Adams is likely to reap the benefits of Cuomo’s decision, as many more moderate donors — particularly those in the business community — are expected to flock to the incumbent in an effort to defeat the progressive candidate.
