Kara Swisher Claims All Trump’s Remaining Supporters Are ‘Basket of Deplorables’
Kara Swisher pulled a Hillary Clinton and claimed only the “basket of deplorables” still support President Donald Trump.
Swisher gave her take on the state of MAGA during the Monday episode of Catherine Rampell’s Receipts podcast for The Bulwark.
The veteran tech journalist-turned-political pundit said it is getting ugly for Trump as the midterm elections draw closer, with a ton of Americans who supported him in 2024 now ditching him. And the last people on the bandwagon aren’t model citizens, in her view.
“His own followers are abandoning him — the ones he attracted quite deftly during the election have gone,” Swisher said. “Latinos are gone, independents are gone, young men are gone, and they’re the ones he very smartly got a hold of during that last election. And all that’s left is, I don’t know, the basket of deplorables.”
Rampell got a decent chuckle out of Swisher’s remark.
“I’ll say it if she won’t!” Swisher added.
She was obviously referring to Clinton infamously saying half of Trump’s supporters could be plopped into a “basket of deplorables.”
Clinton later doubled down in a 2024 Washington Post op-ed, about five weeks before Trump won his second term.
“Just look at everything that has happened in the years since, from Charlottesville to Jan. 6,” Clinton wrote. “The masks have come off, and if anything, ‘deplorable’ is too kind a word for the hate and violent extremism we’ve seen from some Trump supporters.”
Beyond having only the worst of the worst supporters still backing him, Swisher argued Trump has two other problems: He’s “surrounded by incompetence,” and if the Democrats take control of Congress after the November elections, he will be “hamstrung” by lawsuits and probes.
And as for her comment on independents dropping Trump like a hot potato, CNN data guru Harry Enten reported on Tuesday the president was 54 points underwater with that group of voters.
Watch above.
