‘Journalistic Malpractice’: Former Fox News Vice President Blasts Outlet for ‘0 Reporting’ on Kimberly Guilfoyle Scandal
A former Fox News vice president accused the outlet of committing “journalistic malpractice” by choosing to “ignore” the alleged corruption charges against Kimberly Guilfoyle, even as the scandal now threatens to have her booted from her role as ambassador to Greece by President Donald Trump.
In a lengthy X post on Sunday, Ken LaCorte said he believed the dearth of coverage was due to “fear and inaction” from middle management. LaCorte said it “pains” him to call out his old outlet, where he was VP and Senior Executive Producer of FoxNews.com from 2006 until his exit in 2016, but he felt it had to be done. A
“To be clear, this isn’t a simple ‘mistake’ by Fox. It’s not a biased headline or muddled article. It’s a conscious choice to ignore a major story that has been reported worldwide by every major news outlet,” LaCorte posted. “President Trump has spoken about it, as has VP [JD] Vance and Marco Rubio. It’s journalistic malpractice.”
LaCorte pointed out Fox had “o reporting” of the Guilfoyle story on its website, with the last story on her being published in December 2024.
“Fox’s sister company — the [Wall Street Journal] — has done a great job leading the reporting on this. The allegations are substantive, sourced, and paint a picture of a U.S. diplomat wallowing like a pig in a trough,” he said.
His post comes a day after the WSJ reported Trump officials were debating whether Guilfoyle should be removed for pushing “governments from Bulgaria to Albania” to do billions of dollars of business with her foreign business pals. The president is expected to make a decision soon, according to the report.
And that report came on the heels of another story about Guilfoyle pressing Trump donor Eric Deters for $100,000 to settle her credit card debt in exchange for administration access. Trump told reporters on Friday that he knew little about the controversy surrounding Guilfoyle.
LaCorte — who closed his message by telling Fox leaders like Lachlan Murdoch the lack of coverage was harming the company’s reputation.
“Not among your enemies, who will hate you no matter what, but among your supporters, like me, who get pained when the hyperbolic attacks turn out to be true,” LaCorte said.
Though LaCorte sounded a note of regret at the outset of his post, it’s worth noting he was pushed out of Fox News in 2016 amid languishing traffic of the website he oversaw. A person familiar with the inner workings of Fox News told Mediaite, “When Ken ran FoxNews.com circa 2016, it was languishing with 17 million unique [visitors per month].” An overhaul of the site took place shortly after his departure, and it now pulls in nearly 10 times as much traffic, roughly 163 multiplatform monthly uniques.
A few hours after his post, Fox News posted a story Trump and Rubio were considering firing Guilfoyle. And it’s worth pointing out Special Report with Bret Baier aired a story on Thursday about Vance being “uncomfortable” with the report Guilfloyle had Deters pay off her big credit card bill.
In related news, CNN aired a report on Sunday evening about Guilfoyle being on thin ice. The Associated Press reported around the same time that Trump and Rubio were “extremely pissed off” with Guilfoyle and debating whether to fire her.
