Former Biden Director Warns It Looks ‘Disingenuous’ for Abdul El-Sayed to Renounce Hasan Piker Now

A former communications director for President Joe Biden argued it is probably too late for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed to convince Michigan voters he disagrees with the litany of “disgusting” things socialist streamer Hasan Piker has said, considering how chummy they were just weeks ago.

Meghan Hays — a Dem strategist who served as Biden’s “director of message planning” — said during a Saturday interview on MS NOW that El-Sayed’s attempt to distance himself from Piker is futile.

“Some of the choices you make during a primary are going to dog you in a general [election],” Hays said. “It’s disingenuous now to sort of renounce your ties with Hasan Piker — he was disgusting then, he’s disgusting now.”

Hays went on, saying a lot of Democrats tried to “warn” El-Sayed it was a bad look to have Piker by his side on the campaign trail, which included the two hanging out a pool party the night before El-Sayed beat Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) in the Dem primary.

Piker’s ties to Democratic and socialist candidates have been called into question by many this summer, due to his seemingly never-ending stream of anti-American comments. The popular streamer — who has about 10 million followers across his platforms — has said the USA “deserved” 9/11 and he hates the nation. At the same time, he has gushed about communist China and how “f*cking sick” it is.

More recently, Piker suggested earlier this month American Jews could be attacked for supporting Israel — a claim which spurred El-Sayed to say on Wednesday he has “no plans” to campaign with Piker moving forward.

Hays said the damage to El-Sayed’s campaign is already done, though.

“He kind of has made his bed here,” she said. “And it’s hard, because these questions are going to continue to dog him through the general election.”

Hays continued, “People in Michigan have to make a choice: do you believe that he is sorry or that he doesn’t want to affiliate or he doesn’t believe something that Hasan Piker is saying? Then you can go ahead and vote for him. But I think it’s a real hard sell to moderates and independents in Michigan that sort of rhetoric, for Abdul El-Sayed to now say like, ‘Oh, not my problem, I don’t agree with him.'”
