Bill Maher Reveals Trump Invited Him for Second White House Dinner: ‘He Was Really Nice!’
Bill Maher and President Donald Trump are going to break bread again.
The veteran comic revealed on the Monday episode of his Club Random podcast he is headed back to the White House for dinner with Trump, about a year and a half after the two famously ate together. And this time the president said he will be nicer to Maher, after he bashed the left-leaning star a number of times following their much-publicized supper.
“I’m having dinner with him again next week, by the way,” Maher told guest Ari Emanuel.
It’s unclear when the episode was recorded, so there’s a chance the dinner already happened or is happening this week.
Maher has previously talked about how he enjoyed his 2025 dinner with Trump — and UFC boss Dana White, who was also in attendance — and made it clear he would like to do it again. But he chuckled on Monday when he remembered how Trump returned to publicly bashing him not long after, including saying Maher was “eaten up” by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) during an interview on his HBO show. Trump added Maher was a “MORON” who “choked” his big interview.
But Maher shrugged it all off, telling Emanuel it’s clear that’s just Trump’s nature.
He said, “It’s so weird, after the first dinner, I went back to doing what I do, and you know—”
Emanuel then jumped in and said, “He probably screamed at you, said you’re a ‘Low-rating loser.’
“Of course!” Maher said. “It never stops.”
Maher continued:
He tried to stop me from getting the Mark Twain Award… but then like he just, of the blue, [said] “Let’s have dinner again.” I was like, “great.” And he was really nice. Like, “I promise I won’t say bad things about you like I did the last time.”
And I texted back and I said, “You know what? You’re the president of the United States, say whatever the f*ck you want.” It’s like being called a ‘hockey puck’ by Don Rickles. It’s just what he does, it’s how he talks.
The comic brought up the second Trump dinner after he and Emanuel were talking about Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, who mocked Maher in an op-ed for The New York Times where he compared Maher’s dinner with Trump to dining with Adolf Hitler. Maher said he thought it was pretty dumb.
“That’s what I hate about the ‘purist left’ – purity, it’s the easiest thing to be,” he said. “And by the way, you know you’re not a political sophisticate when you immediately go to the Hitler card.”
Watch above.
