Man Arrested on Child Porn Charges Booked While Wearing ‘Gulf of America’ Shirt

A man charged with uploading child sexual abuse material to a Google account was booked while wearing a shirt that read, “Gulf of America.”

In 2025, President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing the federal government to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” The change has not particularly caught on beyond the MAGA faithful, though Apple and Google changed their maps to reflect Trump’s executive order, even though they were under no legal obligation to do so.

Gregory Daffron, 35, of Jonesboro, Arkansas was arrested on Sept. 22. The Jonesboro Police Department says early this month, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted the department about CSAM uploaded to a Google account. The company provided the account’s IP address, an email address, and a date of birth. Subsequently, the investigation led police to a house where Daffron lives.

In Daffron’s mugshot, he is wearing a T-shirt that says, “Lake America: Est. 2025. Fort Walton Beach, FL.”

Police say Daffron uploaded 44 images of CSAM. A detective for the department said the videos included adults engaged in sexual activities with children as young as five and six years old.

In a court hearing on Wednesday, Judge Tommy Fowler said Daffron could face more than 44 counts of possessing CSAM.

“That’s just what they have so far,” he said. “There could be well over 100 counts.”

Fowler set Daffron’s bond at $250,000 and ordered the defendant not to access the internet. Daffron’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 26.

The Gulf of Mexico is not the only body of water Trump has ordered renamed. In August amid the ongoing trade war with Canada, he signed a similar executive order directing the federal government to refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” During the signing ceremony, he suggested he would order at least one ocean renamed.

“So if you think about it, we have a gulf and we have a lake,” he said at the time. “Now all we need is an ocean. So maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific or maybe we will change them both.”
