‘He Might Hurt Me’: Trump Gives Incredibly Blunt Response About RFK Jr.’s Candidacy
Former President Donald Trump said Robert F. Kennedy’s independent presidential bid could end up hurting him more than President Joe Biden at the polls in November.
As has become customary, Trump addressed reporters after court adjourned for the day in his New York criminal trial where he has pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records. He railed against his prosecution and the gag order imposed on him by Judge Juan Merchan, who this week fined the former president $9,000 for violating it. The ex-president also touted his poll numbers.
“So, we’re doing well,” Trump said. “The polls are good despite that. The polls are extremely good. The best we’ve ever had and it looks like we’re doing very well. Any questions?”
A reporter shouted a question about Kennedy and Trump replied:
RFK? I don’t know anything about him. Look, RFK is polling very low. He’s not a serious candidate. They say he hurts Biden. I don’t know who he hurts. He might hurt me. I don’t know. But he has very low numbers, certainly not numbers that he can debate with. And he’s gotta get his numbers up a lot higher before he’s credible. But the numbers, the numbers that he’s taking away, they say will be against Biden. I don’t know. I’m not so sure. Could be a little bit against me, but I don’t see him as a factor.
Kennedy initially challenged Biden for the Democratic nomination before dropping out of the race and launching an independent bid. Recent polls have been all over the place when it comes to Kennedy, who is polling anywhere from the low single digits or the mid-teens depending on the survey.
