Shock Poll Puts Trump Approval Rating Below Thirty Percent For First Time

President Donald Trump’s approval rating dipped below thirty percent in a poll released Monday by the American Research Group, the first time Trump’s approval rating had dipped that low in either of his two terms.

“A total of 29% of Americans say they approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 68% say they disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job according to the latest survey from the American Research Group. In August, 30% of Americans approved of the way Trump was handling his job and 66% disapproved,” noted the polling firm in a Monday release.

The poll was conducted between September 16-20 among 1,100 American adults and carried a 3 percent margin of error.

The poll registered Trump at a 30% approval rating for the last three consecutive months, which is below the RealClearPolitics average of polls, which shows him at 40.1%.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll, also out Monday, found Trump at a 32% approval rating, with a whopping 66$% of Americans disapproving of his job performance, which Reuters noted was “the lowest of his political career.” Reuters also found that Trump’s approval among Republicans had dropped to 73% from 82% in the previous week.

Trump’s approval rating is being weighed down by the perception of his handling of the economy, which only 26% of the poll’s respondents think will improve.

“Of the 29% of Americans saying they approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president in the current survey, 9% say they expect the national economy will be better a year from now, 26% say the national economy will be the same, and 56% say they expect the national economy will be worse a year from now,” added the poll’s summary of its findings, concluding:

In August 2026, among the 30% then saying they approved of the way Trump was handling his job, 52% said they expected the national economy will be worse a year from now. In February 2025 among the 43% then saying they approved of the way Trump was handling his job, 46% said they expected the national economy to be better in a year, 11% said they expected the national economy to be the same in a year, and 30% said they expected the national economy to be worse in a year.
